Brig o’ Doon House Hotel

This week, I’m writing about one of my favourite restaurants of all time: The Brig o Doon House Hotel, in Ayrshire (where Rabbie Burns reportedly hailed from).  I’ve eaten there a few times over the years (usually for special occasions) and it’s a firm family favourite.  I’ve never been disappointed.

Aside from the top quality food and excellent service, the surroundings are nothing short of breathtaking.  I’m not even exaggerating – it’s located within an official Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty!  When we arrived there on Friday evening, it was dark and rainy, but feast your eyes on these lovely pictures!

The food was delicious (as usual) and our Waiter, Michael, was an absolute Gem 🙂

It’s a very popular wedding venue and you can see why!  This is where I sipped on a tall glass of Southern Comfort & Lemonade, waiting for my brother to arrive:

Please excuse my shoddy photography throughout, but I wanted to share what we had with you 🙂

We decided to skip the starter and go straight to the main (making room for dessert, of course).  I had the Steak & Sausage pie.  I’d heard good things about this, so knew I was ordering it before I even got there!

It was soooo good.  I need to find out what sausages they used, and that gravy!  The mash was fluffy and buttery, and I even found a wee roast tottie or two in there as well! 😀

Irene had the fried fillet of sole with tartare sauce and fries.  She’d already started chomping by the time I remembered to take a photo; oops!  I tried a bit of the fish (OK I pinched a chip too).  Delicious…

Irene thought the apple slices were a pleasant surprise, and the tartare sauce was to die for.

Dessert time. 🙂

Irene opted for the fresh fruit salad & ice cream. I don’t usually like fruit in my dessert (chocolate all the way), but I was a teeny bit jealous when I saw this arrive at the table…

I had the praline chocolate tart with ice cream.  It was so dense and chocolatey, and so rich!  It was the perfect portion size.  Observe the amazingness…

So, if you’re ever in the Ayrshire vicinity, you’d be mad not to pay a visit.  You have my full recommendation 🙂

More details and lovely pics can be found on their website here.

Have a lovely week everyone 🙂 x

It really does 🙂 the staff really look after you, and not in an overbearing way either! I’m going to recreate the steak & sausage pie soon; it was too good!
