Enjoy Italian Food

Italian food is one of my all time favourite cuisines. Sometimes you just can’t beat a big plate of Spaghetti Bolognese, a slice of Pizza Margherita, or a rich, bubbling Lasagne.

One thing us Non-Italian folk are good at, though, is destroying classic Italian recipes. Cream in carbonara? Sacrilege (I’ve been told this is the correct way to make carbonara). So when I was contacted by Enjoy Italian Food and asked to try one of their authentic Italian recipe kits, I was thrilled.

First of all, how gorgeous is this box they sent the ingredients in?

Inside were the following goodies:

  • 1 x 500g Trofie Pasta
  • 2 x pots of Pesto Genovese
  • 1 x 100ml Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Sachet of Tinacria Salt
  • 1 x 200g wedge of Parmigiano Reggiano
  • 1 x adorable pop-up colander

Also inside was a sheet of paper, with step by step instructions to make the Trofie Genovese. I was told “We would like you to follow the recipe as directed because our goal is to teach the true Italian cuisine and get excited for the result that you get, the quality of the product is not in question.”

Impressed by their confidence, I did as I was telt!

I was happy to see that each step had a corresponding picture (just like the way I like to blog my own recipes) and the whole thing took under twenty minutes to make. Short work for such a delicious result. Behold…

It was the first time I’d eaten Trofie pasta, and I quite liked the slightly heavy texture of it. If I’d been left to my own devices, I’d have smothered this dish with all sorts of herbs & spices and extra veg (or even meat) before tasting it, but that would be wrong. This simple, authentic dish speaks for itself.

The Pesto Genovese clung to the Trofie, with a little help from the extra virgin olive oil, and gave it such a fresh, bright flavour. The Parmigiano Reggiano grated over the top gave it a nice saltiness, complimenting it perfectly.

I’m chuffed to be able to add another authentic Italian recipe to my list of meals to make, and if you’d like to add some to your own repertoire, then have a gander at the Enjoy Italian Food website. The recipe kit I was sent was the Pesto Secrets Box, but there are other equally delicious looking kits, such as the Italian Flag kit, or the Deep Purple Secrets Box.

These kits are a foodie’s dream, and I’d recommend them for throwing dinner parties, or as the perfect gift to a food lover/aspiring chef, or if you’re looking to impress that someone special 😉

Buon appetito! 🙂 x
