Kilted Skirlie

Hello all 😀 hope you are well!

As mentioned in my last post, I’ve not been cooking much recently.  That’s not to say I haven’t been eating well, though!

On Saturday, Irene and I decided to make an impromptu trip to Loch Lomond Shores.  It’s an easy drive for me, and it was such a nice day!  We’ve been so used to grey, watery skies of late; this had to be taken advantage of…

We paid a visit to the Kilted Skirlie; a lovely restaurant overlooking Loch Lomond.

On the drive there, Irene read out the menu to me.  Good God… I was salivating.  There were so many delectable dishes; I just knew there would have to be repeat visits in the future.  The inside was bright and wonderfully Scottish.  The Kassidy album, playing in the background, made it even more so!

I finally chose the Chicken in the Heather – “Chef’s creation of a tender chicken breast, cooked in French mustard, honey, garlic and cream, served with Rumbledethumps and fresh vegetables”.  Rumbledethumps, by the way, is “a dish from the Scottish Borders consisting of crushed potatoes, onions and cabbage, similar to the Irish Colcannon“.

It was too good.  I was so full, yet didn’t want it to end.  I will experiment, until my dying day if I have to, to replicate that amazing sauce.  The chicken was so moist and tasty; you could tell it was of excellent quality.

Irene opted for the Scottish Salmon Balmoral – “A fillet of Loch Fyne Salmon rolled in oats, served with Rumbledethumps and a creamy dill sauce.”

Irene was delighted with the salmon; it was a very generous portion!  We both loved the concept of it being rolled in oats, and she devoured the plate.

The rumbledethumps were terrific (you know anything with potatoes is a winner for me).  Irene had tried it before, but it was a first for me (although I have a recipe for it stuffed amongst my recipe pile somewhere; time to dig it out!).

I saw someone at the next table being served the Beef & Claret pie and, despite my full tummy, I was salivating once more.  It looked terrific and will be my choice of main for my next visit.

We couldn’t fit in a dessert.  Instead, we sat on the balcony, with a lovely Cappuccino, enjoying the view.

If you’d like to dine at Kilted Skirlie, they are open Sun-Thurs: 12pm – 9pm and Fri & Sat: 12-9:45pm (last orders).  Their cocktail menu looks very appealing too! 😉

Here are a few other photos from when we walked off our dinner.

A lovely day indeed! 🙂

Before I go, I’d like to give a big THANK YOU to Jan from A Glug of Oil, for the Seasonal Product Box from Knorr that I won on her giveaway!  It was very much appreciated 😀  Jan is always being sent amazing goodies, so have a gander and keep your eyes peeled for any future giveaways!

See you all next week 😀 x
